Sun Sense Herpetology: Our Story
My name is Sarah, and I’m the founder and manager of Sun Sense Herpetology.
Sun Sense Herpetology started with a passion for genetics, and a very simple love of spending time with reptiles and frogs. I loved to spend hours as a child, catching baby American toads by a local lake in Northern Ontario, putting them in little homemade terrariums (before I knew what that word meant), and then releasing them at night. The first time I held a snake, any fear I had for them disappeared, and I knew that I had a curiosity for these creatures. This curiosity stayed with me into adulthood, when I started my hobby as a keeper. I started with corn snakes, enjoying the complexity of their genetics, and how the genes interact with one another. Next, I welcomed dart frogs, and a bearded dragon as a little reptile bestie. Soon after, geckos came into my life, and I was smitten! I dove into the world of herpetology even more, and I learned the known and documented genetics with crested and sarasinorum geckos and is still in it’s infancy. There’s so much to learn and explore with the species, and I will be here to explore it with you, and provide you with the morphs and traits you’re most curious about.
As I’ve grown and learned as a keeper, the main priority I’ve had is ensuring these creatures get the best care they can. Reptiles and frogs don’t choose to be in my home; I chose for them to be here, so making sure they are comfortable and happy is of upmost importance. My intentions are to stay current with research, update my husbandry and recommendations accordingly, and avoid stagnation in my beliefs and care.
As Sun Sense Herpetology continues to grow and evolve, we are always looking for new ways to expand our offerings and improve our services. Our goal is to provide healthy, high-end animals to fellow animal keepers, ranging from hobbyists to breeders, and to share the love of reptiles to everyone within our reach.
